One thing that surprised us about Hong Kong was that it wasn't just tall buildings and neon lights - there's actually a lot of really pretty nature in and around the city. The area around the city is quite mountainous, which provides a scenic backdrop to all the modern architecture. There are also numerous parks, with really beautiful landscaping. One day, we took a ferry ride to Cheung Chau, which is a small island not far off the coast of Hong Kong Island. It's primarily a fishing village, and we spent some time hiking around in the hills above the town and enjoying the fresh island air. On other days, we visited a seaside shopping area called Stanley, bussed to Victoria peak (although our only view was of fog, unfortunately), toured a Hakka museum, visited the Hong Kong Heritage museum, and much more!

How nice to have the family there. I had to look up durian fruit! EWW!
ReplyDeleteWhat is the point of durian? Do some people actually like it? Every time I see it on Food Network or Top Chef, the chefs absolutely hate having to cook with it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Jesse's parents are adorable. If I'm ever in Hong Kong again, I know whose door I'll be knocking on.
